CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PURCHASING AN RV

HOW WILL YOU BE USING THE RV?
One of the first questions that you want to clearly answer before starting the search for your RV is how you intend to use the RV. Your desired use will help determine what type of RV is best suited for you. At Wilkins RV, before we show any RVs to a customer, we prefer to sit down with each customer to discuss how they plan to use the RV, what features are important to them, how many individuals will be traveling with them, etc. This is what we refer to as the “Customer Interview” and ensures that we show the customer RVs that best suit their wants and needs.

WHAT TYPE OF CAMPING DO YOU WANT TO DO?
Permanent Site Camping: Travel trailers, destination travel trailers, park models or fifth wheels are most popular for permanent sites. Park models and destination travel trailers often times are larger, provide more room, have sliding glass doors, bay windows and have residential conveniences. As a result, while park models and destination travel trailers are convenient for permanent site camping, they are less desirable for towing.

TRAVELING:
Consider how you will be traveling; whether you will be using the RV for weekend getaways or extended long distance travel. Motorhomes and fifth wheels tend to provide for more conveniences when extended traveling, while travel trailers are often a popular choice for weekend travel camping. Also consider the amount of storage space, as longer trips tend to require more storage. Easy setup is another consideration if using the RV frequently.

WINTER CAMPING:
If you plan to use the RV during the winter, please consider an RV with a heated enclosed underbelly that will help keep water systems heated and functioning.

DRY CAMPING:
Dry camping is when you do not have access to electricity or water hookups. This type of camping generally requires larger holding tanks for water storage and a generator for a power source or an additional 12V battery power source along with solar panels to charge.

FINDING OUT WHAT YOU CAN TOW:
If you are buying a Fifth Wheel, Travel Trailer or any other type of towable unit, one of the biggest factors you will need to determine is how much can your tow vehicle safely tow.

On our website, www.wilkinsrv.com there is a link under the “Learn More” tab where you can access a towing guide for your vehicle. Our website contains some very informative articles regarding towing, tire pressures, hitch equipment and more.
